Summary[edit]

Human Language Families (in wikicolors).

This map is an upgraded version of the original -File:Human Language Families (wikicolors).png- by User:Ishwar.

In upgrading the image I made many changes. Added missed off islands like Mayotte, Palau and the Solomon Islands. Moved the Falkland Islands further south. Reversed some of the overzealous hatching of native languages/Indo-European Languages. Made the colours more distinct by darkening some like Tamil/Dravidian and Georgian/Caucasian. Added mostly Indo-European speaking African cities like Lagos and Dakar. The isolate Kuot language was added to Papua New Guinea. I added some info from the 'Modern School Atlas (96th edition)', ISBN 978-1-84907-013-3. --Wipsenade (talk) 18:29, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I like the greater accuracy of this map. One question: It seems there is a curving arc of islands extending southeast into the Atlantic from the coast of Brazil. Is this an artefact of the editing process? 99.122.55.211 (talk) 18:30, 17 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. Wipsenade (talk) 19:26, 3 April 2011 (UTC) Final adjustments are still happening for about 1-2 weeks.Wipsenade (talk) 14:40, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Japonic[edit]

Altaic is a proposed language family that includes the Turkic, Mongolic, Tungusic, Japonic and, perhaps, Korean language branches.[1]

Altaic language family is bigger than it. This map show only TURKIC language as a Altaic but only Turkic but also Japonic and Korean language are sub-fanily of altaic language family.

There are two possible solution for this:

1- Altaic language renamed as Turkic language. Like that http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/de/Map-TurkicLanguages4.png

or

2- All of altaic language painted as altaic. (korean, japan, hungary etc.) Like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Altaic_family2.svg

Kurdish[edit]

The kurdish language is member of persian language family, its true but in this map southern east painted as "All of native speaker of kurdish" it can be semi painted as Altaic and Persian.

On the other hand not only Kurdish but also Zazaki, Dersim language are familiar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.66.232.9 (talk) 12:27, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Canary Islands[edit]

The four islands southeast do not exist, then they should be deleted.
