Only a couple people know the true history of the design of this logo. It is a shame that the creator of this simple but beautiful design was designated to be anonymous for the good of the River Vale community at the time of its creation.

When the town council wanted a representative logo for official use, it decided to run a contest and accepted candidates from town residents. The designs submitted were all thought to be too inferior, and lacking in a proper heritage theme. The town council approached one of their senior police officers, who they knew was friendly with one of the town residents, who was known to be artistic. Lt. Dominick Orso approached his friend of many years, and showed her the best of the candidates that were submitted, explained the dilemma, and asked for help. His friend agreed to create a logo, using some of the themes expressed in submitted artwork, but incorporating some of her own as well. The catch of course was to remain anonymous about this, which suited the artist's desire as well. The current logo you see posted here, in Town Hall, on official vehicles, and even some street signs, was the creation of Eve G. Marks, deceased in December 2005. The original artwork sketches resided with her up to her passing. Eve was married to Harold H. Marks who predeceased her in August 1996. They moved to River Vale from the Bronx in 1956, and remained residents until their passing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.225.181.206 (talkcontribs) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 52.129.8.52 (talkcontribs)

Additional information:

The logo was the brainstorm of then Commissioner Murray Goodman who contacted me regarding this project. It was decided that a contest would be held and that students in the 8th Grade at Holdrum School would be eligible to enter this contest. The school was advised and the Township received drawings from the 8th Grade students and the winner was Susan Hood of River Vale. Her design was modified by a dear friend, Eve Marks, who was a resident in River Vale for many years. The last I saw the original design by Susan was in the Juvenile/Detective office before I retired in '85. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.185.234.37 (talk) 15:14, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
