what is the united kingdom ?

my difinition of a federation is very broad and easy to understand in this diffinition if a nation state directly sub-divides into county eqivelent areas such as Japan or France then its not a federation in any way . a nation has to be subdivid into provinces or states and then into county eqivelents. now this diffinition is broad becasue it does not take into acount government regimes or democracy or capitalism or monarcy or anything just pure goverment land division types ,but look at great britain its called the united kingdom and it sub-diveds into "states" and then into county eqivlents. the old medival provences of united kingdom no longer exsist however theres no longer a mercia or any of that anymore. so what is the UK if its not a federation? 76.244.150.120 (talk) 14:37, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

Netherlands

Belgium is not a federation

Belgium is a monarchy and a monarchy can't be a federation by definition (with some exceptions such as UAE, Malaysia and other similar states with sub-national monarchies) since sovereignity is ultimately vested into the monarch. Its regions have a high degree of autonomy, and the country could be descrived as a de-facto federation. Belgium is one of the 'exceptions' listed. The process of transformation from a unitary state to a federal state began in 1970. In 1993, the Fourth State Reform took place which turned Belgium into a proper federation. i think belgium is a federation now granted its a tiny one but belgium sub-diveds into provinces and then on to small county areas im not sure how many county areas but im certain that the number would not be very large. its kinda like looking at the US state of rhode island becasue when one looks at this state they think this place is only about 1,000 sq miles or so of land its be impossible to have a bunch of tiny counties but yet rhode island divides into 5 counties. but rhode island is about the same size as cook ,county illinois where chicago is located. yet cook county is completly urbanized and over 5 million people live there. so if a a small federation is divided into small states then thos small states much be of a similar nature to rhode island just in turn being divided into small counties. 76.244.150.120 (talk) 14:45, 5 June 2011 (UTC)

well i do know that north sudan was a federation it might still be a federation given its large size. South sudan on the other hand could also be a federation but its states would be small. still large enough to subdived them into counties. but i difinatly agree the map has become out of date there should be a white border line going though sudan to show the contemporary border we now have there. 76.244.155.36 (talk) 02:46, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
