This seems so out of place and not funny[edit]

I'm so confused why this is encyclopedic I cant let it go omg. It's a meme of the Israeli foreign media spokesperson, like why. He is not known for being a viral tweet/meme. Soyembika (talk) 21:51, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, excuse me? On Talk:Eylon Levy I literally JUST provided you (and spent my time) with 5+ RS that explain very specifically that Levy became a viral meme because of this incident. I find it disingenuous that you would then come over to this file and then seek its removal stating the exact opposite of the RS material that I provided just for you. I will provide this material in a section below.
As I have also explained, inclusion of this image and describing it is NOT "because it is funny" but because Levy went viral, became much more well-known in Israel and among consumers of English-language news media, and became one of one the well-known personalities associated with the war on Gaza.
If you have another reason why you do not wish to include the incident, please state it clearly. Thank you. Keizers (talk) 22:47, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Importance of illustrating the eyebrow incident[edit]

I am repeating information that has already been extensively provided in the file itself, but it is worth posting here as well for those that do not understand that showing Levy's eyebrow expression is important for an entire section of the article about him:

  • “Levy – or at least his eyebrow raise – has become a household name in Israel” – Jerusalem Post, "Meet Eylon Levy, Israel's spokesperson and viral meme sensation"[1]
  • “Israeli Government Spokesman Eylon Levy, who became a viral sensation after raising his eyebrows in shock at a question from a Sky News reporter” – Channel 7 (Israel)[2]
  • “Levy raised his eyebrows in utter shock and told Burley that that was "an astonishing accusation." The video has since garnered over 16 million views since Levy shared it on social media.” – Fox News[3]
  • From the Times of Israel article "Israel’s newest, British-born international spokesperson is raising some eyebrows":[4]
    • “Since the eyebrow incident, many of his moves have gone viral;”
    • “So sometimes it’s uncomfortable for me – they’re making fun of my eyebrows, and soldiers are dying”
    • ”Levy’s raised eyebrows have even been turned into a trance music video”
  • “Levy’s eyebrow raise has since become an online meme.” – Times of Israel, "Israeli gov’t spokesman’s reply to UK host’s question about hostage deal goes viral"[5]
  • “It has raised eyebrows all round” - Times of London[6]

Rationale for inclusion of the file in Wikipedia[edit]

This infortmation is repeated from the "File" tab in case people might overlook it!

  • Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) A section about the Eyebrow Incident and resulting Eyebrow Meme, as well as the initiation of Eylon Levy as a popular subject of memes and other popular culture expressions in social media, on television and elsewhere.
  • Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) The software or website from which the screenshot is taken is copyrighted and not released under a free license, so creation of a free image is not possible.
  • Not replaceable with textual coverage because (WP:NFCC#1) The eyebrow incident is entirely related to something visual that Levy did with his eyebrows on the program. It has to be seen in order to be understood as a concept.
