Guyana[edit]

In Guyana IE is still the leader. It´s next to Venezuela. Venezuela uses chrome, 2nd most used in both countries is firefox. Chrome is most used in both.

Nepal[edit]

The colouring is wrong for Nepal and for other south asian countries. I am pretty sure Nepal has more usage of firefox and IE than chrome, by a huge number. Antarctica - Should be listed?[edit]

Should Antarctica be listed? It is not a country, so maybe it should receive the color gray. It has a population of 0 so the only people occupying it are researchers, not residents and is not recognized as a country by any official entity such as the UN BaShildy (talk) 21:23, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. Antarctica is not a country - it is split in parts "belonging" to different countries, and even has a part which is not claimed by any country. However, the description of the image on the description page reads "Most used web browser in country or dependency as of January 2012". So now the question is: How should this map treat dependencies? Should they be colored equaly to the country they are dependent on? Regardless of the answer, I don't think Antarctica should be treated as a single dependent territory, and therefore it should not be shown with a single color. I believe the reason that Antarctica is presently shown with a single color, is due to the way the internet is organized. Antarctica has its own Country code top-level domain (.aq) even though it is not a country! I think the best solution, for now, is simply to delist Antarctica, preferably removing it completely from the map so that the map reflects similar maps on Wikipedia where Antartica is also absent. Regarding other dependent territories, I think they should just be colored the same way as the country they are dependent on. E.g. Greenland - same color as Denmark, French Guiana - same color as France, Svalbard - same color as Norway, and so on. Alternatively, the map could be re-organized by Country code top-level domain, and the title of the map could be changed to "Most used web browser by Country code top-level domain according to StatCounter" - but that is difficult to understand by the non-technical reader. 90.184.5.10 (talk) 23:08, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is according Statcounter show their share, for example share of France is different to the French Guyana, it is simple, not complicated.

In regards to Greenland, as it is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark, it could be listed with a different color as Denmark because of it's unique country code top-level domain. If we relabel the image as by top-level domain according to StatCounter, I'd agree that it makes the image less clear. I would vote that French Guyana, Svalbard, Greenland, and all co-dependencies / countries within other nations should be listed separate. We can either remove Antarctica from the map, gray it out, or adjust the map so it wouldn't be visible as a compromise. BaShildy (talk) 01:14, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have given this world map issue more thought, and actually wouldn't mind that dependencies, oversea regions, etc. could be listed separately with a color different from their "controlling" state. I think the main source of confusion started when Antarctica was introduced into the map. First, it bothers me that the area of Antarctica is so huge compared to the other countries. I know that this is a result of the projection used but it is still misleading in particular when the population of Antarctica is taken into account. Second, it bothers me that Antarctica is represented as a single region which suggests that Antartica is a country, which it is clearly not.
