Portrait of Jane Austen is reversed[edit]

The image of of Jane Austen (uploaded by User:Kyd at 20:13 on 31 December 2006) currently used in the Jane Austen article seems to have been reversed so that the sitter is looking to our right (her left). This appears to be an error in the cited source "The Face of Jane Austen". The original sketch by Cassandra Austen displayed at the National Portrait Gallery portrays her looking to our left (her right).

Possible higher resolution image[edit]

It would be great to have a better image - in the original her eyes are a warm rich brown rather than the tidal mudbank color in the current image. But Bridgeman_Art_Library_v._Corel_Corp. and Museums Copyright Group 2004 statement may be relevant.... Pointillist (talk) 22:48, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From where did the current image originate? I read through your two references. It is disappointing that museums 'rely on' revenue they get from 'licensing' reproductions of items in their collection, because in this way they've effectively argued themselves into believing that a permanent prevention of a quality digital reproduction of this portrait becoming part of the public domain is good.
