last pilot on the right is a phantom of sorts. perhaps an old friend, returning to visit, wishing he could fly again for the living, but must instead fly the baroque plane of the damned to hell and back, for all eternity...a ghostly sisyphus unable to cope with his essential (but ultimately quotidian) role in shepherding sinful souls in the great cosmic order of life & death in this universe.
