Wouldn't it be easy to make a free replacement?[edit]

It's at Coney Island; wouldn't it be really easy to make a free replacement for this?P4k (talk) 01:30, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If I had lived in New York City I would have tried to do so. Unfortunately no one seems to have done so.
This was an "installation" of "conceptual art". The artist created it, installed it next to real thrill rides, to stimulate discussion and debate -- not to make money. It was only budgeted to be installed for a limited number of months. That time has expired. So, if it was retired on schedule, it is no longer possible to go take a free picture. Not replaceable[edit]

Another wikipedian tagged this image for speedy deletion, based on the assertion it was "replaceable by a free image". This exhibit of conceptual art was covered around the world -- therefore it was notable. It was only scheduled to be "installed" for two months. So it is not replaceable. I dispute that a verbal description is an adequate substitute. I suggest that this is a unique historic event, and as such qualifies as a valid instance of fair use. The Waterboard Thrill Ride
"Brooklyn artist Steve Powers’ installation has been up since July beside less menacing Coney Island sideshows: Pay $1, and see an animatronic torturer in action. It should be on view 2-6 on Friday and 2-8, Saturday, Sept. 14, when it closes."

Removed the speedy deletion tag[edit]

I removed the speedy deletion tag, after receiving this note from the nominator. Geo Swan (talk) 04:02, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
