Odd discontinuity at 2022-12-14 in Horizons data, visible here[edit]

There is a jerky motion in the video visible here as CAPSTONE enters the rather stable orbit near the Moon on Dec 14. I've also noticed in my own retrieval of the Horizons data (below).

In this data it also suddenly shifts from getting further from earth each day, to getting closer (see deldot column).

If anyone knows what is going on between these points, let me know.

@Phoenix7777 Can you modify the image to fix the issue? Ergzay (talk) 17:45, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Nealmcb: It is a fault of Horizons' data. See this data. There is an apparent glitch between 2022-Dec-14 00:01:00 and 00:01:30. This is because a discontinuity of two data:

Trajectory name Start (TDB) Stop (TDB)

What I can do is to wait for a new data from Horizons.―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 23:19, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh - very helpful. I hadn't paid attention before to the very important "SPACECRAFT TRAJECTORY" section of the commentary at the beginning of the trajectory. Thanks for the reply, and thanks so much for the animation!! ★NealMcB★ (talk) 16:57, 25 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There're new datasets at your link now, but they only cover July thru September, which is to say, only about the first half of the transfer trajectory ("finally entering the intended NRHO around the Moon on 13 November", per the CAPSTONE article). So putting work into updating these may not really be worthwhile at this point.

Now Horizons removed the last data (ref_at_jul_2459764.82_v01_prelim_V0.2), so the last available time is 2022-DEC-14 00:01:09.183. Probably (and hopefully) they are working to correct the last data.―― Phoenix7777 (talk)
Good point. And now I see they have a new ephemeris as of September 12, which also ends Dec 14. ★NealMcB★ (talk) 00:20, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
