Description
English: This world map illustrates global aircraft hijackings that occurred between 1958 and 1979. It includes hijackings involving criminal occurrences, ground fires, and sabotage, with consequences ranging from repairable damages to total hull loss and high fatality rates. The map provides an overview of the geographic distribution of such incidents (including those with unknown location), shedding light on historical aviation challenges.

The legend within the visualization demonstrates the total number of hijacked planes during the specific time period, the number of missing flights with unknown locations, and the color distinction between hijackings with a fatality rate that equals to zero or higher (shown with hues white, orange, and red). The map also illustrates the highest targeted areas with yellow nuanced areas, and it points them out with the names of those locations, to highlight the number of hijackings and their fatality rates within the same geographic area - or in some case including the surrounding area (S.A.) of the incidents.

The user edited the visualization, which was originally created using QGIS.
