Summary[edit]

Gravestone of Lieutenant Colonel William W. S. Bliss (1815-1853), Fort Bliss National Cemetery, Fort Bliss, Texas. The American soldiers buried here have uniform grave markers in the style and format shown. The ground is bare because the cemetery is in the process of xeriscaping to encourage the growth of desert vegetation, so as to consume less water. Labor will not be saved, as continual weeding of non-native plants will be required. Picture taken by self April 20, 2007
