Rationale of fair use for The Watcher in the Woods[edit]

1. No free equivalent exists that would effectively illustrate the rough history of the film and its conclusion, which was re-shot numerous times.
2. The image does not in any way limit the ability of the copyright owners to market or sell their product.
3. The image is only used once and is rendered in low resolution to avoid piracy.
4. The image meets general Wikipedia content requirements and is encyclopedic.
5. The image meets Wikipedia's media-specific policy.
6. The image is used in the article wiki-linked in the section title.
7. The image is significant in presenting the ending of the film as it was seen in its final 1981 cut, which is much different from the previous original endings.
8. The image is used in the article namespace.
9. The image has a brief description that identifies the image, notes the source, and provides attribution to the copyright holder.

Licensing[edit]

This image is a screenshot from a copyrighted film, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by the studio which produced the film, and possibly also by any actors appearing in the screenshot. It is believed that the use of a limited number of low-resolution screenshots for critical commentary and discussion of the film and its contents on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, qualifies as fair use under the Copyright law of the United States.
