Summary

Description
English: Istanbul was occupied by Allied Powers of the 1st World War who came out victorious. Three days after the occupation, an assembly was decided to be gathered. It was decided that the assembly would gather in the club of the Committee of Union and Progress.

The building was not fully equipped, though. There was neither painting nor plaster on the walls or any tiles on the roof. The building was then plastered and painted. The residents of Ankara took the tiles off their own roof and brought them to the General Assembly. School desks were taken and seats were made of these desks for members of the parliament. The assembly of people was inaugurated on April 23, 1920. The General Assembly is the principal structure of Ankara and it will always be because it is where the first assembly of Anatolia was inaugurated. It is the spirit of National Struggle. The Republic was proclaimed there.

Ulus Meydanı'nda Zafer Anıtı, I. Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi, 1930'lu yıllar

İttihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti kulüp binasının 1915, 1916, o yıllarda yapımına başlanmıştı. Tasarlayan mimar, Hasip Bey, derler, ama aslında bir harf yanılması vardır, adı Hasif Bey’di. Şehit Hasif Bey’dir o. Balıkesir cephesinde başına isabet eden bir kurşunla ağır yaralanmış, Miralay Kâzım (Özalp) Bey’in kollarında can vermişti.
