| Description |
English: The Iron Duke is a large calendering machine on Kingston Road, Bradford on Avon, that serves as a memorial to the town's 150-year involvement in the rubber industry. This machine's purpose was for rolling rubber into sheets, binding rubber and reinforcing textiles, and was the earliest of its kind operated outside the US.
In 1970, it was given to the Bristol Industrial Museum. In July 2016, it was returned to Bradford-on-Avon, and unveiled publicly on 24 September. A charity-endorsed project, the legwork included reassembling the machine on location and building it a rainproof shelter. |
