Description
English: Plate 29. The Day of San Carlos. By Joseph D. Strong (1853-1899). c. 1879. At Carmel Mission. On the far left is Jules Simoneau, a Monterey restauranteur who hosed Robert Louis Stevenson and the artists Tavernier and Strong. To Simoneau's left is Maria Loreta Onesimo, and next to her is her husband James Meadows. The altar boy is unknown. Father Angelo Delfino Casanova leads the religous service. The elderly man with the cane is "Old Ventura." California Historical Society.
