Summary

Description
English: Reconstructed tramway The tramway was constructed in 1806 to transport limestone the 0.7 miles from Llanymynech Hill to a wharf on the Ellesmere Canal. With the extension of the canal to Montgomery and Newtown further tramways and wharves were constructed. In 1840-41 some 56,500 tons of limestone were transported on the Montgomery Canal. There were 92 separate kilns operating along its 26 mile length preparing lime for spreading on the fields: many of these are still evident.
