Summary

Description
English: Rackett monument, Spetisbury Unusual pyramidal monument to Thomas Rackett (died 1840) and his wife Dorothy (died 1833). Part of the inscription reads "Talents were not confined to the exercise of ordinary Parochial duties, they extended themselves to the Promotion and Cultivation of the various useful Arts which soften the asperity of human nature." In other words, he was an absentee vicar, whose absences caused villagers to convert to Catholicism, and complain to the House of Lords. http://m6live.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/features/snapshotsofthepast/3754795.What_a_Rackett_/
