Summary

Description
English: Haugh End House, Sowerby. Built around 1760 – next door to Old Haugh End, Sowerby – by John Carr for John Lea. The property passed to his daughter Lydia and son-in-law, Joseph Priestley, and the Priestley family and the Rawson family. Old Haugh End was built around 1526. It was owned and extended by the Tillotson family. Archbishop John Tillotson was born here. A fireplace is dated JT and 1630 to commemorate his birth.
