El conjunto de Monte Louro, Lagoa das Xarfas y playa de Area Maior se encuentra en el ayuntamiento de Muros (La Coruña) en un área de transición entre las Rías Altas y las Bajas. Además del paisajístico, de la impresionante mole del Monte Louro que nos sorprende de pronto en nuestro viaje, de su valor ecológico, de su geomorfología...Está también el aspecto histórico y humano. Ha sido habitado desde épocas prehistóricas. Restos de estas poblaciones a su pie así lo demuestran. La zona es rica también en petroglifos como a "Laxe das Rodas". Así mismo existió un convento medieval franciscano y en la cumbre del monte hubo un fuerte en el siglo XVI para defender la ensenada de Louro de los piratas. En su parte baja existe además un faro, que ha ayudado y ayuda a navegantes en este océano todavía bravo en los confines de A Costa da Morte. |
