English: Looking east along E Street NW at the sidewalk and the dry moat along the north side of the J. Edgar Hoover Building (the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation) in Washington, D.C., in the United States. The office building, constructed in the Brutalist style, began construction in 1967 and was completed in 1975.
Concerned about the violence that was common in the United States in the late 1960s, the FBI required that a deep, dry moat surround the FBI building on three sides (east, north, and west). The moat is deeper in some areas than in others. |
