Ce temple, qui est un des plus beaux édifices traditionnels newar, a été construit en 1702 sous le règne de Bhupatindra Malla.

Avec ses 5 étages (30 m), c'est le temple le plus haut du Népal. Un escalier bordé de gardiens en pierre (lutteurs, éléphants, lions, griffons, déesses) permet d'y accéder.

Il est dédié à la déesse tantrique Siddhi Lakshmi, une incarnation de Durga (Parvati). La déesse est représentée sur les 180 étais sculptés de la toiture à 5 niveaux et sur le torana (équivalent à un tympan) au-dessus de l'entrée.

Ce sont les artisans newar qui, au Moyen-Age, auraient inventé la toiture appelée toit pagode, devenue célèbre en Chine.
