Summary

Description
English: Le Billet de Logement, a painting by Paul-Léon Jazet that was exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1879. A billet de logement was a letter issued by the town mayor which required residents to house visiting soldiers, and sometimes their horses. It could also force them to feed and maintain them. It allowed soldiers to be housed temporarily if the town did not have barracks to accommodate them. The painting has an element of humour as the tension in the perturbed recipient's face is exaggerated, while the female figure steals a glance of the letter with curious interest.
