Summary

Description
English: Arms of Isack of Boreat (anciently "Buryott, Bolliott" (Vivian, p.502), "Buryet" (Risdon, p.318)) in the parish of Atherington in Devon: Per pale azure and purpure a cross flory or between four lambs argent (Vivian, Lt.Col. J.L., (Ed.) The Visitations of the County of Devon: Comprising the Heralds' Visitations of 1531, 1564 & 1620, Exeter, 1895, p.502, footnote, as appears on the Risdon monument in St Giles-in-the-Wood Church, Devon also in Westdown Church, Devon). The lamb is a quasi-canting reference to Genesis, 22:7-8, The Sacrifice of Isaac, who briefly took the place of a sacrificial lamb. Vivian continues the blazon quoted above with: each gorged with a rope pendant azure. Such a rope tied around the neck is not discernible on the monument he quotes, which is sculpted in relief, not merely painted. Nor is a rope apparent on the Risdon monument, similarly sculpted in relief.
