Summary

Description
English: The biosynthesis of juvenile hormone III is dependent on insect taxonomy. Insects in Orthoptera, Dictyoptera, Coleoptera, and Diptera first methylate farnesoic acid (1) to methyl farneosate (2) with JHAMT, followed by epoxidation by P450 epoxidase to yield Juvenile hormone III (4). Insects of order Lepidoptera first perform an epoxidation by P450 epoxidase to convert farnesoic acid (1) to juvenile hormone acid III (3), followed by JHAMT-dependent methylation to produce juvenile hormone III (4).
