Summary
| Description |
English: The Flavel Block was built by Captain George Flavel and designed by notable Portland architect Warren H. Williams. Completed in 1888 at the southwest corner of Bond Street & 10th Avenue, it was destroyed by fire in 1922, along with the rest of downtown Astoria. Replaced by a much smaller building, most of the block was still owned by the Flavel family until recently. This illustration of the building was included as a vignette on a bird's-eye-view map published in 1890 by J.W. Stengele. Businesses shown include the Frankfort Land Co., J. Strauss Books, Stationary & Notions and the Astoria Street Railway. |
