Summary

Description Romwegkarte, first edition, created for the Holy Year 1500, to be used by pilgrims from central Europe going to Rome. Original's approximate Scale is 1:5600000, 41 x 29 cm. Orientation is South-up: Rome is near the upper edge, Nuremberg at the center of the map. This is the first ever printed european roadmap. Dotted lines for the main roads allow to find out distances: Distance from one dot to the next one is 1 German Mile (=7400 m; see detailed maps in www).
