Gravé au pointillé en couleurs par Monsaldy en 1814 d'après le tableau peint en 1789 par Nanine Vallain. Extrait du Journal de Paris, 26 avril 1814, : «M.lle Nanine Vallain, peintre, rue Guénégaud, n° 19, nous écrit qu'ayant eu l'honneur de peindre... le duc d'Enghien en 1789, la famille de ce jeune prince quitta le royaume [le 16 juillet] avant que le portrait eût été remis à... M.gr le prince de Condé, auquel il appartient, et, depuis vingt-cinq ans, Mlle Vallain l'a religieusement conservé. Assurée d'être la seule personne en France qui ait peint M.gr le duc d'Enghien, elle invite les personnes auxquelles le souvenir de S. A. est cher, à venir chez elle reconnaître dans cette image les traits d'un prince regretté si justement.» C'est à ce moment que le tableau fut gravé par Monsaldy, dont l'estampe fut annoncée dans le même journal le 8 juillet suivant : ... Prix, 6 fr. avant la lettre, et 4 fr. avec la lettre... Chaque épreuve est retouchée au pinceau Il est représenté à l'âge de 17 ans, en buste, de tr. q. à g. Ovale sous lequel on lit : Peint au palais Bourbon par Madame N. Vallain et gravé par Monsaldy, sur le portrait original appartenant à M.gr le Duc de Bourbon Gallica |
