Description
English: The map of Leiden was published by Frederik de Wit (1630-1706) in the last decennium of the 17th century. Although De Wit published a wide range of cartographic materials most of his publications were hardly original or accurate. Many of his maps appeared to be copies or reissues from old copper plates only to be signed with his own name and address. This is the case with this plan of Leiden. The town plan was copied from a wall map of the city of Leiden designed by Christiaan Hagen (active 1663-1695) in 1675.
