Area code 939
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Area code 939 for Puerto Rico, operates as an overlay for the original local (787) telephone area code. Most telephone numbers in Puerto Rico that feature this area code tend to be wireless phones.
As an overlay, the area code was added on or around the date September 2001. The (939) area code was created following (787)'s split from the legacy regional (809) area code.
When in Puerto Rico, the full area code + seven digit phone number must be dialed. When calling to Puerto Rico from anywhere in the mainland United States or Canada dial, 1(787 or 939) + seven digit phone number.
